The Literacy Council is excited to present Musicale 2018, featuring solo artist Eric Schmitt and acoustic duo Clay Parker & Jodi James. Musicale 2018 will be held on Sunday, October 21st, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. The event will be held at the Cash and Carry Building at 809 Enterprise Boulevard. Patrons will enjoy music from Baton Rouge area musicians, a delightful selection of food, and complimentary beverages including beer and wine.
Eric Schmitt, a Lake Charles native, earned his MFA in Creative Writing from McNeese State University. Since 2000, he has served as an English Instructor at LSU in Baton Rouge. A former member of the band Flatbed Honeymoon, he launched his solo career in 2013 and has released two albums “Pina Coladas and a Polynesian Girl” and “Unraveling.” Songs from his most recent album have been described as relatable, honest, and unpretentious.
Clay Parker and Jodi James are also familiar names in the Baton Rouge music scene. They partnered in 2014 and released their self-titled album soon after. Their most recent album, “The Lonesomest Sound That Can Sound” was highlighted by Rolling Stone Country. Their sound was described as “sweetly harmonized… mesmerizing, back-porch music.” Look out for them this fall where they’ll be playing onscreen in Blaze, Ethan Hawke’s new biopic.
We hope that you will join us a sponsor for Musicale 2018. Packages are available beginning at $250 and individual tickets are $100. Proceeds from Musicale will be used to support the Literacy Council of Southwest Louisiana. Our agency provides educational services for adults, children, and families across SWLA. Your support will ensure that the Literacy Council continues to provide educational programs that help people lead self-sufficient and enriched lives.
