Santa's Hot Chocolate Run

We are excited to mark the return of Santa's Hot Chocolate Run to our favorite route beginning at the Central School Arts & Humanities Center.  The race route starts at the corner of Pujo St. and Kirkman St. and takes runners on a 3.1 mile route via Lakeshore Drive, Watkins St., 7th St. (past St. Louis High School), and Bank St. - ending at Pujo St. and Reid St. 

 

The route is great for new and experienced runners.  It is a semi-closed course that has been professionally measured to ensure accuracy.  An added perk, SHCR takes participants on a morning run / walk through some of the prettiest spaces in the downtown Lake Charles area.

 

This year's race will include water and photo stations at four points along the route.  It will also include a scavenger hunt around the four corners of the Central School.  Take a leisurely walk around this great oak tree lined space - four times around equals one mile.  One of the most popular elements of the event is our Kids Zone.  It includes a variety of fun activities for kids of all ages.   All race participants and onlookers can enjoy our Hot Chocolate Station.   Both the Kids Zone and Hot Chocolate Station open at 8:00am - once the race begins.

 

This year's race will be professionally timed by Race Pace Multisport.  Runners will be able to review the race board for times and rankings.  At the conclusion of the race, awards will be provided in the following categories:

• Top Runner

• Age 65 +

• Age 55 - 64

• Age 45 - 54

• Age 35 - 44

• Age 25 - 34

• Age 18 - 24

• Age 13 - 17

• Age 11 & 12

• Age 8 - 10

• Age 5 - 7

 

Registration opens on Saturday, October 6th.  Race participants that register by November 15th are guaranteed a race t-shirt in their size.  Registration for adults is $30 and registration for students is $20.  Beginning November 16th, registration increases by $5 - $35 for adults and $25 for students.

 

For those who prefer to register the morning of the event, on-site registration begins at 6:45am on race day - December 7th.  Beginning December 5th, adult registration is $40.  Student registration will remain $25 from November 16th through race day.

 

We encourage teams to register for Santa's Hot Chocolate Run.  Wear your custom, company, or club shirt to show your support for literacy and lifelong learning! Team recognition includes the team with the most participants, fastest time, best Candy Land themed outfits, and  most spirit.  

 

Packet Pick-up will be held on the Thursday and Friday before the race from 3pm to 6pm at the Central School Arts & Humanities Center in room 123.
